How does this season compare to 86?
I was only 6 then so I can't compare by memory, how does our current squad compare to back then?

86 wil live long in the memory a fantastic season, so near and yet so far from the summit

Looking back football was so different back then but we just clicked that season
Mark Ward was such a good signing

Yes, scarily similar.... I'm getting quite excited.

Can't believe we've only had to wait 30 years.

Re: How does this season compare to 86?
the team spirit is very similar, no bigheads or prima-donnas. id say we have a bit more depth now in crucial positions. in 85-86 when you consider 7 of that team played 40 league games and Ray Steward 39, it shows how fit they were. if only Julian had come along a bit earlier, we may have won the title

We had a massive fixture backlog due to the weather. Great times, a game every 2 or 3 days, and winning most of them

Re: How does this season compare to 86?
The competition was a lot different back then, Liverpol dominated everything and Everton were always the second team.

Not a lot in it in my view, cottee and mcavennie scored goals for fun that season and stayed fit all season, unbelievable compared to the lightweights in this day and age. The current squad seem to have more strength in depth, and can score from a lot more positions so that just sways it for me

Re: How does this season compare to 86?
Our away form against the so called bigger teams is better this season than 85-86. At home we dominated most games but 2-1 defeat to Chelsea hurt us.

Re: How does this season compare to 86?
There's no comparison. In '86 we were close to winning it.
